Why the square pipe matters

Square section pipe resists twisting far better than round tube of the same wall thickness, because the load is carried at four corners rather than spread around a curve. On an examination couch that shows up when a patient sits heavily on one edge to get on, or when two staff transfer a patient across from a trolley. A light couch flexes and creaks at that moment; this one does not.

3 inch upholstery

Most examination couches have a thin pad, which is fine for a two minute examination and uncomfortable for anything longer. At 3 inch the foam actually supports the patient’s weight rather than bottoming out onto the deck underneath, which matters for dressings, minor procedures, physiotherapy and any examination where the patient is lying still for a while. It also lasts longer, because a thicker foam takes more compression cycles before it flattens.

Backrest and head

The backrest raises on a support linkage and holds at a range of settings, so the patient can be examined flat, semi-upright or sitting. The shaped head bolster supports the neck when the couch is flat, which a plain flat pad does not.

Finish

Powder-coated steel throughout, with floor protectors on the feet. Upholstery is wipe-clean vinyl with sealed seams, disinfected between patients, and is available in a range of colours.
