Gas lift versus screw thread
The traditional medical stool adjusts by rotating the seat up or down a threaded column. It works, but it takes both hands and a dozen turns, so staff leave it at whatever height the last person set. A gas lift is a lever and a shift of weight, which means the stool gets set correctly for each person and each task.
Why an unupholstered seat
A stainless seat has no vinyl to split and no seam for fluid to enter. In a theatre, a sterile services department or a wash-down laboratory, that matters more than seat comfort, because the stool is cleaned as hard as everything else in the room.

Seat, column and base are all stainless, so there is no powder coating to chip at ankle height where stools are constantly knocked, and nothing to corrode where cleaning fluid collects.
