Why open rather than enclosed

An incubator holds heat better, but every intervention means opening it. In the first minutes after birth the baby needs constant hands-on access for drying, stimulation, suction, cord clamping and possibly intubation. An open radiant warmer trades some thermal efficiency for complete access from three sides, which is the right trade in a delivery room.

The cassette drawer

A chest film on a newborn usually means lifting a sick baby to slide a cassette underneath. The drawer under the mattress platform takes the cassette from the side, so the film is taken with the baby undisturbed on the platform. On a compromised neonate that is a clinically meaningful difference, not a convenience.

The tilting platform

The lever tilts the platform head-up or head-down. Head-down assists drainage of secretions; head-up is used for respiratory comfort and after feeds. Being able to set it one-handed matters when the other hand is on the baby.

Acrylic walls with a scale

Clear walls keep the baby visible from every side of the room, so staff can see without approaching. The printed scale along the edge gives a quick length reference without a separate tape.

Trays and mobility

Two swing-out trays hold the resuscitation kit within arm’s reach on either side, and the lower shelf takes a suction unit or cylinder. Four castors let the warmer be brought to the mother rather than the baby carried to it.
