Description
Levelling matters more than it sounds
Theatre floors are laid to falls for drainage and settle over time. A table on fixed feet will rock on such a floor, and the movement is felt by the surgeon at exactly the wrong moment. Four levelling pads let the table be trued during installation and re-trued if the floor moves.
Why the column is conical
An operating table is loaded off-centre almost all the time: the patient is not centred, the surgeon leans on one rail, accessories hang from one side. A column that widens toward the base carries that eccentric load with less deflection than a parallel tube of the same wall thickness.
