Description
Built around a seated surgeon
Ophthalmic surgery is done sitting down, at the head of the patient, looking through an operating microscope. That changes what the table has to do. The pedestal base is a flat plate with a single column, so the surgeon’s knees and the microscope stand both come in close at the head end without meeting a leg or a spreading base.
Why the top is contoured
Under a microscope at high magnification, a small movement of the patient is a large movement in the field. A flat top lets the patient settle off centre and shift during the case. The contoured top draws the body to the midline and holds it there under its own weight, which steadies the head without strapping the patient down.
The head section
The hinged head section sets head position relative to the microscope, which is the alignment that decides whether the surgeon is working comfortably or reaching. Folded down it extends the working length of the table.
Hands-free height
Height runs off a foot pedal and tilt off a handwheel. During a microsurgical case the surgeon does not take a hand off an instrument to reposition the table, so a foot control is not a convenience here, it is the only usable option.
One piece, no seams
The top is pressed from a single stainless sheet with no upholstery, no seam on the working surface and no fixing heads in it, so the table is washed down rather than wiped and there is nothing for fluid to enter. Padding can be laid on the top where a case needs it.
